A Carjacking at a Nashville Walgreens Took a Dramatic Turn Nobody Saw Coming

A routine DoorDash pickup in Nashville ended in a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon — and the story is one that has a lot of people talking.

Here's what we know, and what it means if you're visiting Nashville.

What Happened at the Berry Hill Walgreens

Just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, a DoorDash driver pulled into the Walgreens parking lot at 2600 8th Avenue South in Berry Hill, according to WSMV News 4.

He walked next door to the Chick-fil-A to pick up a delivery order.

When he came back to his car, a suspect approached him with a weapon and tried to carjack him.

The Situation Escalated Fast

According to WSMV, the suspect got into the DoorDash driver's car. The driver pulled out his own gun.

The suspect fired first, hitting the driver in the leg. The driver returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect, who was still inside the car trying to drive away.

Officers arrived to find two gunshot victims. The DoorDash driver was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be okay, according to Metro Nashville Police Department PIO Don Aaron.

Where Berry Hill Is

If you're not familiar with Nashville's neighborhoods, Berry Hill sits just south of downtown — roughly a 10-minute drive from Broadway.

It's a quieter commercial area, known locally for its music studios and small businesses. It's not a neighborhood most tourists end up in, but it's close to several popular spots on 8th Avenue South.

The Walgreens where this happened sits near a stretch of restaurants and shops that locals frequent.

What This Means for Visitors

Carjackings happen in every major city, and Nashville is no exception.

If you're renting a car during your trip, a few habits go a long way. Stay aware of your surroundings when returning to your vehicle, especially in parking lots. Keep your doors locked while driving. And avoid leaving valuables visible inside the car.

Nashville's tourist areas — Broadway, the Gulch, East Nashville — are well-patrolled. But incidents like this are a reminder that situational awareness matters no matter where you are.

The Investigation Is Still Open

Metro Nashville Police have not announced whether any charges will be filed against the DoorDash driver, according to WSMV News 4. The investigation is ongoing.
